About Department
The BA English Language and Literature program is a three-year degree course divided into six semesters, each lasting 18 weeks. Designed for students with varied career aspirations, this program provides a foundation in English language and literature, nurturing both spoken and written proficiency.
Established in 2014 with an initial sanctioned strength of 24 students, the Department of English has expanded to accommodate 70 students. With the adoption of the FYUGP (Four-Year Undergraduate Programme), we are set to evolve further to meet the growing academic and professional demands of the discipline.
Our department comprises seven dedicated faculty members known for their commitment to students and a profound passion for literature. These educators have played a crucial role in shaping socially responsible, compassionate individuals who contribute meaningfully to society. To enhance students’ learning experience, we regularly host extension lectures, seminars, workshops, and webinars, preparing them for future academic and professional challenges.
A primary objective of the department is to develop students’ communicative abilities alongside their literary knowledge. Through real-world engagement activities and events, we encourage students to build conversational skills and connect classroom learning with practical applications. Our mission is to inspire students to push beyond academic limits and strive for excellence.
LAUNCH OF FIRST ADD-ON COURSE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ASAP KERALA
In collaboration with ASAP Kerala, the department recently introduced an add-on course focused on enhancing students’ practical skills for the global workplace. On October 5, 2024, an online workshop introduced this course to over 160 enthusiastic participants, emphasizing the importance of industry-relevant competencies. The official launch of this course took place on November 2, 2024, with students enrolling to take the Aptis test—an English proficiency assessment certified by the British Council. Through this certification, students can further refine their language skills, meeting international standards and gaining a competitive edge in various career paths. This initiative underscores our commitment to equipping students with essential skills for the evolving demands of the workforce.
